“Os episódios mais violentos tinham início com deslocamentos do espaço que depois se transformavam em rotações da direita para a esquerda. Descobri que se inclinasse a cabeça de determinada maneira as rotações voltavam. Assim que voltava à posição normal diminuiam. Sons intensos e lugares agitados eram extremamente incómodos e tendencialmente agravavam os ataques. (…) Depois continuas a furar e entramos na casa. Separamos os homens das mulheres. Verificamos a identidade dos homens e seguimos para a próxima casa. Damos doces às crianças e se estiverem com fome ainda oferecemos latas de atum. Levávamos doces junto com o nosso equipamento. (…) A minha perspectiva disso é como se vivesse com uma bomba relógio que tem um cronómetro que gera um padrão numérico aleatório –nunca se sabe quando irá explodir. (…) A primeira sessão foi muito divertida. Senti-me a levitar, a dois ou três metros da cama. As visões transformaram-se rapidamente numa chuva de padrões luminosos. Azul e verde eléctrico. Perguntei: “Estão cá outra vez?” Não obtive resposta.“

Foi a partir dos textos fragmentários de um caderno manuscrito, de uma sequência de pequenos filmes em super8 e um particular desenho, aparentemente pertencentes à mesma pessoa, que decidimos apresentar este tributo a alguém de identidade desconhecida mas que descreveu com minúcia um conjunto de experiências muito singulares, algumas talvez, de origem patológica. Os textos parecem ser autobiográficos e os filmes revelam um olhar particular sobre o que entendemos ser o espaço que habitava.
Desafiados pela dificuldade em interpretar estes materiais, avançámos num exercício talvez especulativo mas que pretende dar a conhecer esta “personagem extraordinária”, a natureza dos seus textos, esporádicos desenhos e filmes. Para tal convidámos um médico e um psicólogo que nos ajudaram a perspectivar e interpretar estes objectos. O esforço de articulação das fontes existentes revelou-se extremamente profícuo na descoberta de um estranho mundo onde a imaginação e a realidade se alimentavam diariamente, encarcerando esta “personagem” num complexo labirinto.

IN A REAR ROOM – A TRIBUTE (2010)

“Severe episodes would have the room start by shifting then begin spinning in a right to left direction. Trying to focus on an object sometimes helped. I found that if I moved my head and held it at certain angles that it would bring on the spins. Generally these subsided as soon as I put my head back in a "normal" position. (...)Continue drilling, enter the home. Separate the men and the women. Check the men's IDs. Pass the numbers on to the Shabak, and on to the next house. Give out candy to the children and some tuna cans if they're hungry. (...) My perspective is like that of living with a time bomb that has a random number generator on the timer. You never know when its going to blow. (...)The first session was a lot of fun. I felt myself lifting off the bed three or four feet. The visions rapidly developed into an almost sparkling electric blue-green light pattern. I asked, "Are you here again?" No answer.”
Text fragments from anonymous author

From a series of text fragments found on a manuscript and two short films, apparently written and shot by the same person, we decided to present a tribute to someone with an unknown identity, but who thoroughly described a group of singular experiences, some of them with pathological origin. The texts seem to be autobiographical and the films reveal a particular look on what we believe to be the place where this person lived and worked.

Although impossible to find out the author’s identity we moved on speculating about this “extraordinary character”, always trying to be faithful to the nature of its texts, its very few drawings and films. For that purpose we invited a psychologist and a physician who helped us looking and interpreting these objects. The effort to articulate the existing sources was extremely important to discover a strange world where imagination and reality have a daily role imprisoning this “character” in a complex labyrinth.
